Great documentary on Hunter S. Thompson. A little longer than I expected (close to 2 1/2 hours) but there was so much about the man's life that was interesting it could have lasted 12 hours. Definitely worth seeing. And worth considering what a man like Thompson would be saying about the current presidential race.

Good documentary; though they certainly underplay how the copious amount of alcohol and drugs he consumed might have created suicidal depression

Interesting parallels drawn between Thompson's peak writing period and the current situation. It gave me a lot to think about long after I'd left the theatre. I definitely recommend this film for lots of people, perhaps especially those not very familiar with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's legacy.

I enjoyed myself, even though I've seen a lot of the actual Thompson footage before, but that's just because I'm a rabid Thompson fan. I liked that there was a lot of his writing included, which is the greatest part of the Thompson Legacy. Although, not a whole lot of new information for those well versed in the life of the good Doctor. I actually liked "Breakfast with Hunter" a little better, and combined with the BBC Documentary on the Criterion "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" DVD you'll get more of your fill of HST. All true Thompson fans will be obliged to see it, but I regret to say, although you may not feel cheated, might be a bit disappointed.

This is a periodically in-depth documentary look at the life and times of influential hippy-ish writer Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, with a lot of items read by JOHNNY DEPP (who also appears in scenes from the movie made of Thompson?s book ?Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas?). There are a lot of interviews and comments by Thompson himself, along with those of friends (such as Rolling Stone publisher JANN WENNER and his co-workers), family members (his 2 ex-wives and his son), etc. There are some fascinating tidbits -- his thoughts on the open use of various drugs, his hate of politicians such as Richard Nixon & Hubert Humphrey, his influential promotion of the candidacies of people like George McGovern, & so on. As Wenner comments on the disappointing end to Thompson?s life, he had a lot more he could have ?given? (seemingly referring to possible weight he could?ve provided to coverage on the missteps of Emperor George the Inept). Overall, I found the film often interesting, tho nothing great.
